Clothing for Hot Days and Cold Desert Nights
Pack lightweight, breathable, loose-fitting clothing for daytime sightseeing and safaris, plus at least one warm layer — a jacket, fleece or heavy shawl — for desert camp evenings, which can get surprisingly cold, especially in winter. Layering is your best strategy here.
Sun and Sand Protection
A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and high-SPF sunscreen are essential given how intense and direct the desert sun is. A scarf or bandana is also genuinely useful, both for extra sun protection and for keeping blown sand out of your face during a jeep or camel safari.
Footwear
Closed, comfortable shoes work far better than sandals once you're on the dunes or exploring ruins like Kuldhara, since sand gets everywhere with open footwear. If you're doing a lot of walking inside Jaisalmer Fort's narrow lanes, worn-in walking shoes are a good idea too.
Practical Extras
Bring a reusable water bottle, a power bank for your phone, a small dry bag or pouch to protect electronics from sand and dust, and a basic first-aid kit with sunburn relief and rehydration salts. If you wear glasses, consider a strap to keep them secure during camel or jeep rides.
